A multimedia exhibition of artist's books, book objects and book experiences.  Co-sponsored by 2013 Fall for the Book; curated by Ceci Cole McInturff for the George Mason University's School of Visual Art. Unique book-as-performance evening Sept. 14 from 6-9 pm.

Increasingly digitalized, historically a cultural icon in its codex form of pages and text, and valued from Kindle to library as a distinct experience, is the book.  What the word actually means to any given reader, or viewer, or handler is at a time of highly fluid interpretation.  Concepts of handmade books as art, and object/installation/performance as “book,” are expanding genres within contemporary art.

With Inner Librare, the Workhouse and guest curator Ceci Cole McInturff present a multimedia examination of evolving interpretations of what is book-like, coinciding with the 12th annual Fall for the Book Festival on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University.

From August 24 through October 6, the 20 veteran and emerging artists of Inner Librare imply stories through sculpture, photography, sound art, performance and artist’s books – with and without text.
