An innovative collaboration of visual and performing arts and education in the unique historic setting of the former DC prison.

The Workhouse Arts Center is a beautiful 55 acre cultural center that has been restored from prison origins and revitalized to bring arts, education, history and recreation to the community. We welcome your visit for a family day out, a lunch break, a shopping excursion, a tour, a history session, a cooking lesson, a business outing, a special event, a pilates class, a film study, a school trip ... and everything in between. Recently added to our campus is the presence of the Metropolitan School of the Arts. We are conveniently located on Route 123 just off of I-95, so feel free to just drop in and have a look at this amazing restoration.

You will likely find yourself surprised at the beauty of the buildings, the scope of the offerings and the potential of the project. Enjoy a snack in our cafe in Gallery W-16.
