Building W-6 is Featuring its New Artists for January 2022: Jon Cane, Nanette Catigbe and Elizabeth Blaisdell. Reception will take place during this month’s Second Saturday Art Walk on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 6pm – 9pm.

Jon Cane is a professional artist and teacher, specializing in pen-and-ink illustration, mixed media and spray paint. He teaches several courses at the Workhouse, including Intro to Drawing, Charcoal Basics and Ink Washes. He holds an MBA from the University of Maryland. “Feel” explores how art can evoke a variety of emotional responses, and is completely dependent on the viewer’s point of view. Pieces of surrealist art will will be presented with neither title – i.e. “Piece #1” – nor explanation.

Nanette Catigbe – this Filipino who has lived most of her adult life as a physician in her home country was initially anxious to pursue a full-time career in the arts when her family moved to the US during winter of 2017. This career shift wasn’t all that foreign to her for she has loved the arts since childhood. Living under Iowa skies for 3 and a half years greatly inspired her to paint not only the magnificent landscapes of the Midwest, but also the people around her and their everyday living. Her portrait paintings convey likeness and most importantly, expression and emotion. Being self-taught made her even more prolific. She works in several mediums and is unable to commit exclusively to one. She also creates wearable art, most of which are custom and commissioned pieces. Having been juried into exhibitions and winning awards gave her the much needed confidence to pursue and explore the arts even more. Her very recent move to Virginia inspires her to make new paintings. She tirelessly creates wherever she may be, whatever season, and whenever she can.

Elizabeth Blaisdell is an abstract impressionist painter and photographer. She likes to manipulate images, and her process is developed through layers created over time.
