Medium: Painting

Background

Mary Kane studied with Hoyt Sherman life drawing and worked in his flash lab at Ohio State University getting a BFA there. Composition, color, line and rhythm were ingrained in her from the many layers of art classes gotten at OSU and for years later with professors from PAFA in Philadelphia and other distinguished artists. One juror described her painting as “a symphony of color, rhythms, intervals, and vibrations..as if we were seeing music, “One must take time to listen.”

Philosophy

As I have moved from realism to abstraction, I have carried in me all the instincts for composition. Now I put color on next to complementary color without really knowing what I’m doing and after many layers I feel I’m finished when I surprise myself.
