(un)Endangered Species; Re-imagined Places Exhibit

  • Workhouse Arts Center - Muse Gallery, Building W-16, 1st Floor  9518 Workhouse Wy Lorton, VA 22079 United States (map)

Andi Cullins invites you to enter a new reality; a world created of imagination and reclamation, of altered perception and expanded definitions. This world is both two-dimensional and three-dimensional as images flow from the walls to the figures below.

Continuing with CODE SWITCH - her intentional mixing of African and Australian Aboriginal fabric designs and batiks, combined with western fabrics and her own hand-dyed textiles, Cullins creates fabric mosaics that invite a viewer to experience familiar and iconic scenes in in a unique pallet. For this exhibition, she has moved this concept into the 3-dimensional, using it as a surface design applied to animals rescued as found or discarded objects. Cullins transforms them by emphasizing their beauty and movement through the artful application of color, texture, and pattern from her Code Switch fabric pallet. Several large-scale pieces form the backdrop and habitats for these creatures. To walk through the exhibition will be to enter a new realm where African and Aboriginal patterns and colors create the landscape and re-define the creatures.
