W-6:“Gardens of Paris” by Terry Anstrom

The Gardens of Paris are renowned gardens of Claude Monet and Josephine Bonaparte. In Giverny, Monet’s Garden garden displays a breath-taking palette of flowers and colours. Monet painted the water garden, with its Japanese bridge, water lilies, wisteria over and over again. As many as 150 paintings of his express the brilliant interpretation of his water lilies. Best known for serving as empress of France while married to Napoleon Bonaparte, Joséphine also created her own legacy in the gardens of Malmaison.

Their estate became renowned as the site of Europe’s largest rose collection, with over 250 species — all carefully supervised by Joséphine herself. In a visit to Paris in the spring of 2023, these gardens gave Terry Anstrom an artistic inspiration for their paintings. Please enjoy the smaller paintings with watercolor on canvas and larger watercolor paintings on 140 lb cold press. Giverny and Malmaison were vividly rewarding artistic journeys.
