Donte’s process embodies the survival mode he embraced during a tumultuous upbringing in a fractured environment. Through craft, he feels the stability and comprehension he yearned for by combining thrown and hand built forms, interweaving organic and geometric shapes to articulate clarity amidst the chaos. Similar to the maturity of clay, this process depicts his resilience and strength built over time. Donte intentionally creates abstract machines that extend to the experience of living within a system that governs humanity, presenting both advantages and distorted realities. These creations unveil the injustices we confront, exposing the disparity between our idealized vision of where humanity should be heading and the harsh realities of where we currently stand.
