Alison Landry
W-6, Studio 608 C
Medium: Painting and Drawing
Background
Alison Landry, a portrait and figurative oil painter, joined the Workhouse community as a resident artist and instructor in September 2022. While she has always loved and appreciated art, it wasn't until 2015 that she began to seriously and passionately study drawing, painting, and the techniques of contemporary and past masters. Before her return to art, Alison was a middle and high school French teacher and taught with Teach for America. When not in the studio, Alison loves being outside in her garden or walking in nature, and you might even find her painting en plein air (outdoors). Alison lives in Arlington, VA with her husband and two children.
Influences
Alison's work is deeply rooted in the rich tradition of realism. Her paintings range from loose and expressive sketches from life to work that is more carefully studied and resolved, yet still painterly. Alison enjoys exploring color, texture, and expressive brushwork within the structure of realist proportions and form. She is captivated by people and strives to capture both their likeness and spirit in her work.
