12th Annual Workhouse Clay International
Group show; Vulcan Gallery, W-16 1st Floor
On View: August 6 – October 9, 2022
Workhouse Arts Center is proud to present the 12th Annual Clay International exhibition. The juried exhibition represents the depth and breadth of contemporary functional and sculptural ceramic artworks being created throughout the country. Ceramic artist Tony Clennell juried over 300 images to select 50 pieces of which incorporate a contemporary spirit as well as technical skill in the material. The show is an exciting opportunity to see a variety of style and technique which encompass the field of contemporary ceramic arts.

Juror’s Statement
It was a great pleasure and privilege that Dale Marhanka asked me to jury the Workhouse Arts Centers 2022 Juried Show. If you are ever invited to jury a show you should think very carefully. It is not the fun pile. I spent 3 days deliberating over 116 applicants that sometimes included 3 entries. So, for over 300 submissions I had to choose a show of 50. So much talent, so much good work, so much pain and so much anguish.
To begin with I just returned from 3 months in Portugal where I hiked The Fisherman's Trail. The rock formations along the Atlantic Coast were beyond belief. I really think this time in Portugal influenced my choices in this show. Rocks, geology, surface, texture mixed with humour has informed my aesthetic.
I know you are all really proud of the work you submitted, and you should be. It was all top shelf. It felt weird to not accept something I wish I had the talent to make. You are amazing!
Keep making Art the way you do. It is special and so are you.
Thank you for this opportunity to view your work.
Best,
Tony
