14th Annual Workhouse Clay International
Group show; Vulcan Gallery, W-16 1st Floor
On View: July 27 – October 20
Reception: August 10, 6 - 8 pm
The Annual Workhouse Clay International exhibition represents the depth and breadth of contemporary functional and sculptural ceramic artworks being created throughout the country. Ceramic artist and educator Matt Kelleher juried over 125 images to select 46 artworks that incorporate a contemporary spirit as well as technical skill in the material. The exhibition is an exciting opportunity to see a variety of styles and techniques that encompass the field of contemporary ceramic arts.
Juror’s Statement
“Thank you to all the applicants and congratulations to the exhibiting artists. It was a privilege to study the breadth of work in this jury process. Ultimately, I had to make an evaluation, but I pushed that off as long as I could. Instead, I paid attention to what I noticed about each work. To notice, is to be surprised, to ask a question, to want to know more, a yearning to touch. When I lingered on a piece, appreciating the multiple images, viewpoints, and details, the accepted list revealed itself.”
