Background
Fernando Osorio was born in Peru. He grew up next to the Andes and later on close to the Pacific Ocean. He started exhibiting his artwork in 1981 and has had a dozen of solo exhibitions and several group shows. He lives and works in the Washington DC area since 1988.
He studied art at PUCP in Lima, and at Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington D.C. He also studied with renowned artists such as Cristina Gálvez and Juan Pastorelli in Peru; and Nicholas Wilton, Steven Aimone, and Pamela Caughey in the U.S.
His life experience has driven him from the fields of science to the realms of art and spirituality. His interest and thirst of knowledge and experiences have been broad. His first career was engineering and planning. In addition to arts, he has been involved in music and poetry. He released two CDs with his music, and has published three books of poetry.
Immersed in the tradition of modern art, he is currently working in large format paintings at his studio in Lorton, Virginia. He has exhibited his works in the United States and Peru, where his works are held in private collections.
Philosophy
Art is an affirmation of the creative aspect of the human spirit. It is the materialization of the transparent energy inherent in the entire universe into tangible forms aesthetically organized.
I seek to achieve order, balance, and harmony by appealing to differences and contrast among the art and design elements. My art digs into the foundations of a piece of art: line, shape, value, color, and texture. These elements, beyond their subsidiary function, have value in themselves, and that is what I want the viewer to experience.
I consider color as a central character in my works. I would like the viewer to recognize the canvas as a stage in which art elements are living and interacting characters. I also like to suggest that the apparent unfinished parts of the canvas convey beauty.
Another goal in my overall practice is the attainment of a synthesis between abstract and figurative art, the reunification of both.
I hope my work triggers transcendent thoughts and emotions in the viewer—an aesthetic experience. Finally, each piece of art is a signal to remind us of the mystery and miracle of life. I conceive art as a means to spiritual awakening..
