Background
Gene grew up in Illinois and was exposed to fine art at a young age through his two aunts who are both accomplished artists. He studied business at the university of Illinois where upon graduation he took a commission in the Air Force serving as an officer and aviator flying the KC-135. During his 22-year career he lived in Europe where he traveled the continent soaking up the amazing works of many yet-to-be-discovered artists as well as all the great masters. With regards to his own art, Gene’s artistic journey began in 2014 when he enrolled in the fine arts program at Northern Virginia Community College. It was there that he found his “artistic voice” in painting mostly abstract works. In 2016 Gene became an exhibiting artist at the Workhouse Arts Center as part of the Arches Artists group and has been continuing to paint and evolve his style.
Philosophy
Gene is an abstract minimalist painter working in oil on canvas with the influences of the 1920s De Stijl art movement. At its very core Gene’s work is simple yet complex with a vibrant pop of primary colors. Each painting is a statement piece that brings a moment of contemplation, wonder, or surprise for the viewer.
