W-6: “INTERSTICES – GAPS OF THE WORLD” by Amy Bruce. February 8th- March 8th

INTERSTICES – GAPS OF THE WORLD The term refers to a space that intervenes between things, a gap or break in something, a short space of time between events, literal and figurative gaps of the world. The amount of life changing events that happen in a person’s life is undefinable. Life, death, work, home all the big-ticket things that change us and are seemingly inevitable rights of passage as we age and move along our personal timelines. My experience in this life has always been with a heightened sensitivity and lens that is dialed towards energy and nuance of a moment which often leaves me overwhelmed. My own need for emotional regulation has guided me to take moments of pause where I get to see deeper and experience fuller visions of the things we don’t always pay attention to. I needed these pauses over the past few years as some big tickets got punched. I ended my 30 year teaching career and lost my father within a 2 month time frame. These images are a dedication to the intensity of that much happening in a short amount of time and flipping the emotion on its head. The images in this exhibit are all double exposures that layer moments in time together. Some were shot in-camera within seconds of each other, some were manually layered with digital textures I created with scans of my paintings, prints and drawings. They give the viewer a moment to pause, remember to breathe and let themselves sink into the safety of these gaps of the world.
