W-6: “Wood Works” by Cameron Porter - April 10-May 4

Cameron Porter is an award-winning, multidisciplinary artist whose skills include, but are not limited to, animation, illustration, design, painting, photography, sculpture, woodworking, and filmmaking.
Although he usually just calls himself an artist, that title can encompass many things. In Cameron’s case, he had a 20-year career in the animation industry as an animator, layout artist, and designer on many notable productions, including The Simpsons. Along the way, he pursued various other artistic endeavors, including illustration, web development, graphic design, painting, photography, and videography.
Most recently, Cameron has dedicated himself full-time to wood sculpture and videography. He considers wood to be the most versatile and innately beautiful medium. It is flexible yet strong—easily carved, bent, cut, and shaped, with imagination as the only limit. Wood can be vividly colored, have dynamic texture, or be completely smooth. What some may view as imperfections, Cameron sees as unique features that add to its allure.
Sustainability is an important value in Cameron’s practice. Wood is a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, and renewable resource. He draws inspiration from everyday life and finds joy in exploring new techniques and uncharted creative territory. Often, he upcycles reclaimed wood, using it as a way to experiment with visually engaging forms while honoring the material’s history.
