W-6: “Works in Wood” by Cameron Porter
In Cameron Porter’s opinion, Wood is the most versatile and innately beautiful medium. It is flexible, yet strong. It can be easily carved, bent, cut, and shaped with imagination as the only limit. Wood naturally can be vividly colored, have dynamic texture, or none at all. What some may consider imperfections in the wood, Cameron believes to be features, adding to the allure. Living sustainably is important to Cameron. Wood is a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, and renewable resource. Cameron takes inspiration from things in everyday life that he sees around him. Trying new techniques and things he has not done before is integral to his process. Cameron often upcycle reclaimed wood to explore different ways of creating visually appealing forms.
