December 2021 Featured Artist Cheryl VanderMolen Neway in building W-6. Reception will take place during this month’s Second Saturday Art Walk on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 6pm – 9pm Featuring a fashion show at 7pm and DJ entertainment.

Cheryl VanderMolen Neway, owner of Perfect Mistakes, is a batik artist, designer, seamstress and mixed media artist. She is experimenting with different techniques in natural to commercial grade dyeing. She is up-cyling used clothes and transforming them into something new. Cheryl is also working with new fabric as a blank canvas and transforming it through her different ways of resist methods and dyeing processes. From native and natural to imported and manmade, worlds collide as she explores and fuses fabric and techniques from around the world.

Cheryl is a fiber artist who loves to experiment with different techniques in mixed media, dyeing, batiking, sewing, and draping all types of fabric. She designs wearables, accessories, wall decor and couture costumes. Cheryl has been designing and creating since elementary school where she envisioned her first fashion shows, played dressup with her siblings and designed her first skirt and bolero vest. She has acquired knowledge and inspiration from various places, people and times in her life. Her love for nature, travel and the beach has helped shape her artistic identity. She has worked with a handful of companies in the past assisting in pattern drafting, sewing construction and general assistance in a costume shop. She has coordinated and produced many of her own fashion shows showcasing her work.

Cheryl’s current studio,604 is located at the Workhouse Arts Center, in Bldg 6. Her studio space is creative, colorful and invigorating. You can find her working inside or outdoors.
