Sarah Wicks

Originally from Lowell, MA, and currently hailing from Northern Virginia, Sarah Wicks is the flameworking glass artist and sculptor behind Wicked Lampworking. Sarah first starting working with glass over a decade ago at the Workhouse Art Center in Lorton, VA, where she now teaches a variety of hot glass classes and is an emerging studio artist. Sarah has taken flameworking classes from some of the best professional glass artists in the business, including: Paul Standard, Luccio Bubbaco, Shane Fero, Wesley Fleming, Robert Mickelsen, Chris Ahalt, Cedric Ginart, Karina Guevin, and Astrid Riedel. Her studio is located in building W-7, room 707A.

Philosophy

Since the first time she saw live glassblowing as a child, Sarah fell in love with hot glass. As an adult, she began working with glass to craft joyful objects; often drawing inspiration from nature, travel, color combinations, and the many museums around DC. She uses her passion for glass to create whimsical and beautiful objects using a torch and to teach others how to explore their creativity through glass.

Sarah uses a torch that mixes oxygen and propane to create a flame hot enough to melt glass. This technique of manipulating glass is an ancient art form known as lampworking or flameworking.
